Avoiding scams on Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday is almost here. While there will be plenty of amazing online deals, you’ll want to avoid falling victim to criminals who can catch you off guard. Here are a few tips from the Department of Homeland Security to help you protect yourself while you do your online holiday shopping.

Carefully inspect emails to ensure they are authentic. Thieves often use links to compromise your computer or trick you into giving out personal login and password information. You can spot a fake by looking at the company URL and inspecting for typos. If you’re not sure if it’s from the real company, contact them directly.

Use strong and different passwords everywhere you shop. This is one of the best ways to protect your personal and financial information.

Don’t use public Wi-Fi to shop. Your security can be compromised on these networks. While it might take an experienced hacker to get access to your information, it is possible.
