In 1966, George Hafeman graduated from the University of Oregon with plenty of dreams for the future. While a self-driving car might not have been a part of his vision, his Tesla Model X 100D has certainly become an integral and enjoyable part of this local real estate professional’s life.

First, let’s cover the basics about George’s Tesla. It can travel up to 325 miles on a full charge, takes about two hours per night to top off, and weighs just 6,658 pounds, which is equivalent to a new Ford F150. This thing has grit, intelligence, and a certain sense of worldliness just like its owner.

“I’ve lived all over the world,” George said recalling his childhood. “My dad was in the service. I have lived in Japan, Austria, and half the U.S.”

After a distinguished career in the military, George’s dad took his family to Cottage Grove, Oregon where he opened a grocery store. George finished high school, got a degree from the University of Oregon, became a teacher, got his master’s in Education from Lindfield College, and took the world of education by storm.

“I created the first teacher’s assistant program back in 1966 when I was in Northern California,” George added. “It was the first of its kind. Kids from the high school would come to the lower grades and teach physical education under my supervision. I brought that teaching ideal up to Oregon. I taught for years before joining the real estate industry.”

To this day, George is an integral part of Windermere Real Estate, with offices in St. Helens, Scappoose, and Clatskanie. The Tesla easily drives him out to his offices, into Portland, and back home again. Best of all, he doesn’t have to do much more than tell it where he wants to go.

“I’ve had several cars in my life. The Tesla is on a whole different level,” George explained. “If you want to go someplace, you just tell it. You don’t have to bother with an address. As long as Google knows where it is, the Tesla knows where it is.”

InRoad Credit Union was able to help George finance the Tesla.

“We try to do everything locally,” he proudly stated. “St. Helens Community does so much for the Windermere Foundation charity, that it made sense to go there for the loan.”

Though the years, George and his family have utilized the credit union for everything, from car loans and credit cards to savings and checking accounts.

“I’ve been a member of the credit union for 30 years,” he said while explaining that his wife is also a member. “It’s a great place to do business.”
